Is transportation included in the price of the experience?

Accepted Answer

Yes, as long as you stay in Puerto Escondido, transportation is included in the price, so you can just focus on enjoying your mezcal experience! Our van or a taxi will pick you up directly at your address to bring you to the mezcaleria and we will drop you off at your hotel or holiday home after the tour and tasting. In case you are staying further away, an additional transportation fee may be required. We will be in touch with you by WhatsApp or message a day before your mezcal tour to let you know the exact time and confirm exact pick up location, and to let you know if any extra fee will be required.

In which languages are the tours offered?

Our guides speak English, Spanish and French. At the time of booking your mezcal experience, you can choose the language you prefer for the tour.

What days do Puerto Mezcal Tours run and at what time?

Accepted Answer

We usually run tours on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 3:30 PM all year round. However, depending on demand, some extra tours may be added on a weekly basis, and if you wish to take a tour on a different day, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Private Mezcal Tastings at home are offered on demand and any day, according to your availability. Just send us a message to schedule it!
Finally, Mezcal Pairing dinners are offered every Saturday night at 7pm, but here again if you are a group and interested in booking your Puerto Mezcal Pairing dinner any other day or time, please contact us.

What exactly is the Mezcal Tour experience?

The purpose of our mezcal tour is to make you discover what mezcal is, its handcrafted making process and the different tastes and flavours mezcal can have so you can appreciate it even more the next time you order a mezcal in a bar or restaurant, in Mexico or back home! 
 To achieve this, the tour is divided into 3 parts:
 1. LEARN: We start with a short interactive and interesting presentation where the history and the process are explained, to learn everything about this traditional spirit. 
 2. VISIT: Then comes the visit of the working mezcal distillery to discover how mezcal is made, from agave to bottle. (For private home tastings, only pictures of the making process are presented). 
 3. TASTE: Finally, you will taste 10 different artisanal mezcals, all handcrafted in Puerto Escondido, to discover the wide range of flavours mezcal offers, and to learn more about your own taste in mezcal. We always say that there is a mezcal for every one!

What exactly is the Mezcal Pairing dinner?

Our mezcal pairing experience is a private-kitchen style dinner hosted in the mezcaleria. The whole space is privatised for the dinner and you will enjoy a very special night in this traditional space where mezcal-magic happens! Our private Chef created a menu made of 6 dishes (from starter to dessert) inspired by Mexican traditional cuisine, each dish is paired and served with a different mezcal specially selected by the Chef and the Maestro Mezcalero to best marry the distinct and subtle flavours of food and mezcal. Be sure that this is an evening you will remember!

How long does the experience last and what if I have a commitment / dinner reservation on the same day?

Accepted Answer

The full experience usually lasts between 2 and 3 hours, depending on the size of the group. If you have any commitment or need to be somewhere at a given time on that day, please let us know ahead of time so we can make sure we finish one time and arrange transportation accordingly so that you are on time for your dinner or next Puerto adventure :)

Question 7

Can I amend or cancel my booking?

Accepted Answer

If you need to make any changes to your booking more than 48 hours before the tour, we would not charge for cancellation. If you would like to change the date of your mezcal experience and advise us at least 24 hours prior to the date initially booked, no fee applies. However if you inform us last minute of an amend or cancellation request, then we would evaluate on a case by case basis as sometimes we already engaged some costs to organise the experience and would thus have to charge a cancellation fee. As always, the more in advance you can let us know, the better!

Question 8

I have a child / children - are they able to join the tour and how much does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Of course, children are welcome to join and they can learn a lot about Mexican culture too! If your child is young / small enough to be carried in the vehicle, there is no fee, if your child needs their own seat in the van or taxi, then we charge a fee of 400 Mexican pesos.

I do not drink alcohol but I am interested in learning more about mezcal and visiting the distillery - can I still join?

Accepted Answer

Of course, you are more than welcome to! The tour is in 3 parts: an interactive presentation about mezcal and its history, the visit of the distillery and then the tasting of 10 mezcal, so even if you do not wish to drink and taste the mezcals, you will still be learning plenty of things about mezcal making and Oaxaca’s culture. If you are not tasting mezcal, the price for the tour is 800 Mexican pesos, instead of 1200 pesos with tasting included. Please let us know in advance if you are not taking part in the tasting and if you need any transportation back right after the visit of the distillery.

Question 10

Can I bring my pet?

Accepted Answer

Pets are welcome if they are small and calm enough to be carried in your arms, as you will be visiting a working distillery, with sometimes sharp objects or fire around, so you should be able to carry your pet so as to avoid any mishap. If you wish to bring your pet, please inform us in advance as we also need to make sure that the other guests on the experience are comfortable with having a pet around.

Do I need to bring anything to the mezcal experience?

The mezcal tour would usually take place in the afternoon and it can get hot in the distillery, so we advise you bring a bottle of water with you (we can refill your bottle on site if needed) and that you eat lunch before coming (don’t forget you will be tasting 10 mezcal in the tasting part!). Bring your phone or camera if you would like to take pictures and record memories of the experience, but our team will also take some pictures and send them to you afterwards. And of course your curiosity and taste for discovery ;)

First of all: congratulations! Our mezcal experience is a great way to celebrate any occasion with friends and family. Let us know what you are celebrating upon booking and we will make sure to make your experience extra special!

Question 14

Can I privatise the experience / book the tour only for me and my friends / family, and how much does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Yes, you can book a private mezcal experience at the mezcaleria for your group. If you wish to do so, please let us know in advance so we make sure we don’t accept any bookings from other guests on that date. If your group is larger than 10 people, we do not charge any extra fee for privatising the tour, if your group is 10 people or smaller, we do charge an extra fee for privatising. Please get in touch with us about this in advance!

Can I book a mezcal tour on any day / time?

We usually run 3 tours per week on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday afternoons. We sometimes open other slots, and if you wish to have a tour on a different day and time, please get in touch with us - most of the time we are able to accommodate!
